About us
Hello! I am Marrisa- clinical herbalist & founder of Geechee Girl Tea & Geechee Girl Apothecary. I was born and raised here in Savannah, Ga. My Geechee roots run deep- back to Ferrebeeville, SC (near current day Ridgeland). Knowledge of herbs/folk medicine, with love of food and family were maintained through generations and passed to me from my grandparents. As the oldest grandchild who STAYED eavesdropping on the "older folk", I absorbed so much info and learned so many stories- full of valuable tips/tricks and even recipes. Through all my formal training, I still say those family stories were my best teachers. Honoring those who came before me, acts of service, and nurturing others is extremely important to me. Geechee Girl Tea (now Apothecary) naturally encompasses these values, and from them our products were born.
The Geechee Girl Tea journey started out of necessity- born during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. My husband and I were both deemed essential workers, so sheltering in place was not an option. Immunity building became a focus. We began with my herbal knowledge and familial recipes using local herbs and began experimenting. I tweaked my family's folk remedies we used to treat illnesses into preventative formulations. Geechee Girl Immunitea was my first blend, and we were instantly hooked! Soon our close family and friends were using the blend daily and loving it. Each additional blend was born from a need to help a loved one’s health struggles. After documenting increased quality of life in our users- we decided the blends were too beneficial to keep from the world.
Through this journey we expanded our product offerings and our company grew to Geechee Girl Apothecary. Offering bulk herbs, natural skincare, tinctures, fire cider and additional natural health products. Love and care goes into each product, handcrafted in small batches from my family to yours. We've been blessed, and opened doors to our first brick and mortar location March 2025- our story is just beginning. We hope you'll stay along for the ride!
XOXO,
~Risa, the "Geechee Girl"
